ENDODONTICS

3D CBCT Scan

At Endodontics of Gaithersburg, we use the Kodak 9000 Cone Beam CT (CBCT) machine to capture highly detailed 3D images of teeth, jawbone, and surrounding structures. This advanced imaging allows precise diagnosis, treatment planning, and in many cases can reduce multiple visits or eliminate exploratory surgery.

CBCT is essential for:

  • Locating calcified or hidden canals that may not appear on 2D radiographs
  • Evaluating root canal morphology in complex cases (curved roots, accessory canals, C-shaped canals)
  • Identifying periapical lesions (cysts, granulomas, abscesses) with greater accuracy
  • Assessing root fractures or resorption (internal/external)
  • Evaluating bone quality and dimensions for surgery or implants
  • Diagnosing sinus involvement of maxillary teeth and ruling out sinus pathology
  • Evaluating healing after endodontic treatment or apical surgery
  • Planning guided endodontic microsurgery (apicoectomy navigation)
  • Assessing trauma cases (luxation, alveolar fractures, horizontal root fractures)
  • Evaluating relationship of teeth to impacted or supernumerary teeth
  • Orthodontic and surgical planning (tooth movement, impaction, jaw relationships)
